I am still gathering data, still meeting important people in self-important people meetings, still waiting for answers to other questions that allow me to put together time commitments, THEN I can really work on this (here) online project.
In the meantime. Check out this stunning record-setting mural my old buddy Shepard Fairey did in Las Vegas, where he was met and gifted by yet another old buddy Branden Powers with pizza. (Yes it IS a small world.)
Street artist Shepard Fairey’s mural on The Plaza in downtown Las Vegas.
Yes. I am killing time and sharing excuses while showing my friends achievements that don’t seem to have those to whine about. EVERYONE knows about Shepard and Obey and will know even more with whatever he’s about to do next, since he’s a super political activist and I am sure the Trump thing will not sit well. Already Shepard has issued some beautiful Women’s Rights posters. There will be more.
(first 3 shown bottom, keep scrolling)
That’s Shepard on the left and Branden lurking.
Branden? Oh he’s just the serial entrepreneur and serial that’s-just-so-crazy-it-might-work idea man that brought Vegas- The Golden Tiki AND teamed up with the son of Evel Knievel to bring EVEL PIE to the Fremont District in downtown Las Vegas.
Outside and Inside
Maybe that is why I am subconsciously thinking of them as I’m somewhat mired by circumstance. Shepard is the hardest working artist, hell maybe even the hardest working person of all, that I have ever met. And Branden? That cat is one of the old school people responsible for the EDM scene as it is. He was a GIANT rave promoter before EDM became an uhh, abbreviation (?), and since has been a juggernaut of weird throughout the wastelands of Nevada. They are two of my heroes and should be yours too.
I love Amanda Palmer, I love the TED talks, I love publishing… ooh it’s the perfect storm. If there was a strawberry pop-tart with butter on it it, this would have been the the moment of ultimate snacking.
You know, I’m a dude. I could go on a bit about this uber-hip, quick-witted, alabaster-skinned, authentic geek with strong opinions, sexy tattoos, hot pink mohawk, and tantalizing sexiness… BUT I am going to focus mostly on her opinions. The chicks got great taste! I love going to her webcasts cuz I know I am going to get some thorough, educated opinions from someone who has paid attention and put things through an OCD wringer. Although I totally dug the movie Prometheus, her way-the-fuck-too-indepth reporting and analysis made the experience a zillion times more fun. I look forward to watching the movie, re-listening to her rants, and watching it again.
Okay, yeah she is also crazy hot. But even if she was just a highly opinionated brain in a jar, she’s a keeper.
At the beggining of this post is a painting of her by Dan Dos Santos for Diana Rowland’s,r White Trash Zombie Apocalypse book. Go to https://www.facebook.com/Comicbookgirl19 to keep tabs on her adventures, she is gonna be a massive superstar. I told you first.
I am not just a attendee and fan of Comic Con, I am a designer with a booth in the vast auditorium of pop. I also have the honor/burden of being a venue manager for a few off-site events. Soooooo, the last minute chaos is of the highest possible levels.
Did it! We got the booth for Popular Naughty set up and ready, the giant space we call Industry Showroom in downtown San Diego has been completely reconstituted into the SEGA Game Lounge, and I still had some time to walk the floor of the Con.
Aah, at home for one week a year. My fave moment so far was walking by a booth that Lou Ferrigno was signing at and as he stood up he took that moment to perform a thorough package scratching and adjustment session which made the Japanese girls in front of me giggle exactly like the Japanese girls in every anime I have ever seen.
“You won’t like me when I’m itchy.” the Hulk may say.
Danger Factory, where geeks rule, weird is cool, and we swim in the exotic cocktail of music, art, and the world.
