Archive for Comic Con in San Diego
Sooo swamped with setting up the shop. But really, I have gotten a lot of complaints about not doing the modern online shop thing. A SUPER pain that deserved my procrastination, although Godaddy and SHopify have made things a lot easier. It WILL be done by June 15, 2017 and we will be also do pre-orders for the new design production to bring to the San Diego Comic Con in July. Remember, these are the original style of printing. Screen printing. Not the ooky on demand stuff that feels like a rubber badge and weathers so poorly. This is forever print. Even though I have been doing this kind of design for decades, I am in search engine competition with all of those insty-print joints. Especially for the word burlesque, and burlesque t-shirts.
As a result, I have to kinda lay it on thick here with overly descriptive terms. I will try to at least keep it entertaining though.
Once the site is fully functional we can better create this sharing site for Geeks, Freaks, the Tongue in Cheeks, and other explorers of art and music. Comic News too. There is some great alternative stuff out there not getting enough attention. We’ll help.

For the 8th year or so, maybe 9 who knows or cares, we from Danger Factory, Popular Naughty and friends will be displaying our wares and personalities at booth 1617 within the mind-boggling Comic Con International! Besides the clothing line thing (all designed by raconteur, Lothario and artist-type, Rex Edhlund), we will have a selection of super rare TIKI MUGS from Boo Tiki, and the most recent releases from legendary alt art and underground publisher LAST GASP! Please come by. Please enjoy.
I have been a hawker of fine, pop-cultural wares forever. I raised my daughter to carry it on, and she is loading boxes as I jot this down. You can find us in the Convention Center at booth 1617 selling the new designs I knocked out for Popular Naughty and Royal Armageddon. THEN- IMMEDIATELY AFTER, we are going to finish the online store AND chase around you people to join our affiliate network. We want to pay you for your attention, you know, like a psychiatrist or a hooker.
Anyhowsers, to shove my credibility down your throat, allow me to show you my FIRST COMIC CON BOOTH EVER! I think it was 1997 or 98.
If you look close you can see Dave Burke in there- he was selling his art. In one of the pics you can also see Rob Zombie hanging out. I was selling my mags (I used to publish a cool magazine), and I also brought Am Rep Art Zippos, AND I was the first person to bring Kozik’s art to Con, AND I introduced the comic world to the art of Shepard Fairey. This was the first time his posters had been shown to an international art crowd.
How do I start. Holy Cthulhu this was a whirlwind of a show. THIS is the year I start taking the clothing line thing seriously and build the shop and promote and sell my patoot off. I lucked into discovering the beautifully opinionated pleasure of Comic Book Girl 19s online existance and immediately looked into becoming a sponsor. Perfect timing! I had an extra room in this big live/work loftspace I operate called Industry Showroom in downtown San Diego and they had no tickets or room to crash in. Boom! We put together a punk rock, Comic Con summer camp and I brought down CBG19 to help work our booth (and boost her profile). Her lovely, bearded assistant Tyson (the robot/videographer/editor/loved one) came with and we had all the makings of a good show.
Here is her take on it.
(On a horrible note; your Danger Factory host- me, Rex Edhlund, is in there but- WOW do I look like crap in this thing. Remember, zero sleep, I had massive responsibilities with outside parties this year, I am building a clothing line, I do marketing, I promote geek stuff, I run Industry Showroom and use these as lame excuses to eat crappily ever after. Ugh, I look like a ripe grape and can’t bear it. My vanity has taken a hit. Frackit! Midlife crisis starting…NOW!)
Our big collaborative booth creative mess was pretty much the island of misfit toys for us locals and luminaries that couldn’t get their own big space. Well, I had the booth but I like to be sharing. So, Danger Factory hosted Comic Book Girl 19 and shared the booth with Platt College and Nerdular. Both of which I will have more to say about later.
Yeah. A LOT of stuff happens when you put 150,000 creative, enthusiastic people in one place. This is one of the MANY by-products of the San Diego Comic Con. 2013 was a great year.
More to come. The streets were filled with adventure, talent, and creative passion.
Comic Con has re-invaded San Diego, out streets team with Hollywood special effect goons, pop-up shops are peeking out of their nooks, and the party atmosphere begins to coalesce. This lil’ ol’ blogmediasite- Danger Factory, is getting ready too. This is really our official launch and we are teaming up with Nerdular: a new online geek community for collectibles and networking, the clever, opinionated and gorgeous ComicBookGirl19, and the rambunctious and talented PodCrash/G4 host, Chris Gore, for our Industry Night for the Comic Con and Media Professionals. Friday Night of the Con.
There will be about 500 to 700 of you coming through our office loft on 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter and we hope to say hi to you all. We’ll also be hosting the Free Gaslamp Quarter WiFi during the Con. We hope to announce some booze sponsors later today, so hang tight.
Come by our booth AT comic Con (#1617) and see our geek friendly, bad ass, punk rock, social monkeywrenching streetwear and meet our superstar co-host.
Yay, a Jedi Kitty!
Hurray! Let’s read a super-vintage Simon and Kirby comic… here. Thanks LA Times Hero Complex!

The Fest will once again be at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center and will be held October 4-6, 2013. I went to the first one and it was SO COOL! Uber casual and a fun mix of people, mostly old-timers, there to happily fill in any gaps you have in your pop-culture brain-based database.
Comikaze: November 1-3, 2013
Los Angeles’ largest pop-culture convention, owned by comic legend Stan Lee and Horror icon, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and a few other crazy and creative people. Right there in downtown LA.!

I am not just a attendee and fan of Comic Con, I am a designer with a booth in the vast auditorium of pop. I also have the honor/burden of being a venue manager for a few off-site events. Soooooo, the last minute chaos is of the highest possible levels.
Did it! We got the booth for Popular Naughty set up and ready, the giant space we call Industry Showroom in downtown San Diego has been completely reconstituted into the SEGA Game Lounge, and I still had some time to walk the floor of the Con.
Aah, at home for one week a year. My fave moment so far was walking by a booth that Lou Ferrigno was signing at and as he stood up he took that moment to perform a thorough package scratching and adjustment session which made the Japanese girls in front of me giggle exactly like the Japanese girls in every anime I have ever seen.
“You won’t like me when I’m itchy.” the Hulk may say.
