I heart Tiki Oasis! One of the last great kitschy good times.
Held in he entirety of the Hanalai Hotel in San Diego and splashing out into all the surrounding hotels and their respective bars, this annual tiki lifestyle extravaganza is an opportunity of a lifetime.
It is an enthusiastic giant size 3 day hotel party with tons of garage/punk/lounge performers, pin up girls and boys, collectibles, and…. tiki style clothing and streetwear.
Thursday, August 10 – Sunday, August 13th, 2017
In the Hanalai, which was just recently sold, which also means the debauchery level and beautiful chaos may never be this intense ever again. Corporate Debbie Downers will probably put the kibosh on the unrivaled revelry.
Be there by all means. If you make it, stop by the Popular Naughty / Danger Factory booth and buy THIS for example.
It’s a winner! But why wait? Buy this monkey RIGHT HERE! (click it baby)
So much retro street smart style. Love the whole thing.

Just sayin’. Yeah it is super important that she is also a geek, that’s what gets her to THIS site, but the facts are she is pretty much a perfect creature. These pics are an example.. no make up, no prep time, now warning. Just, “Hey Justine! We have two minutes, can you throw these on so I can maybe get a pic for a postcard?” Snap, snap, click, click, oy and here they are- a super pretty girl with every nerd’s dream qualities. She even does improv now with Comic Book Live! The very same troupe that OG Geek Chris Gore is in.
You will see lots more of her, hang tight. And SOMEBODY needs to book her for a Cosplay shoot. Maybe we should do a Kickstarter campaign for that. We need that.Oh, and the shirt she is wearing is the Vintage Destroyer. from Popular Naughty.
It seems SOMEBODY swiped Adrianne Curry’s Stan Lee is my Homeboy t-shirt, which was a hand delivered gift from Popular Naughty. This of course means she will rain down her vengeance upon those deserving a wrathful raining. Or something.
So I went to Comikaze 2012 last weekend, partially to run up some display stuff and maybe help out a bit for the cast and crew of Bad Kids Go To Hell, my new fave indie cult hit; and also to see if it would be worth getting a booth for Popular Naughty.
I would have to say it is a good booth idea. The show itself is kinda old school Comic Con… easy to see it all, a very casual atmosphere to speak with the artists and creators, tons of super geek chic shopping options, and a reasonable load of panels to see. It did have a shortage of actual COMICS, but I am sure that will grow. Stan Lee IS one of the show’s owners now.
I LOVED that they had an pre-show concert. Pop art and alternative music have always been delightful bedfellows, so Peter Murphy was a perfect choice. Here are a few pics.
Now get this. Adrianne Curry, one of the show’s organizers, Stan, and Peter took the stage and Stan Lee and Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy sang a duet of That Old Black Magic.
Wow, the voice of legendary post punk goth group Bauhaus kneeling to the Nerd King.
A very cool alien salesman by the makeup peeps from Face Off.
Bad Kid Go TO Hell co-writer Matthew Spradlin had a casual victim/zombie relationship with a couple of roaming zombies.
There was also the cute geek factor.
Here is Bad Kids Go To Hell actress Amanda Alch lookin’ all retro megahoot.
Yes, I DO have a thing for redheads. Here is the ubercute Alana from Face Off.
Just a few of the topics covered in this maladapted vintage image. This grungy and streetworthy graphic has been roughened up and infused with the kind of troubling wordplay that makes life interesting. Plus it has a mystery ancient language Cthuhu-y message on it that will remain indecipherable for millions of years. Yes, this edgy bit of streetwear looks good on anyone.
Popular Naughty, Royal Armageddon, and Fashion Kult. Your choice for alternative cool ass streetwear and edgy clothing and thingy design. Got it? Streetwear T-shirts? You good?
